The city of London is the capital of England and is also the largest urban zone when it comes to the European Union. The type of climate that you will find in the city of London is oceanic which is the same throughout the south of Britain. Though the city of London does get a good amount of rain each year you would be surprised to find out that it is well below the average of other big cities in Europe such as Rome and Bordeaux. The winters are chilly and sometimes cold while the summers tend to be mild. Snowfall does happen in London but it is never too heavy. The London weather always gets a lot of humidity no matter what time of the year.

The London Rain

Most of the locals will not carry the umbrella but that is a sign of bravery rather than preparedness. Heat Waves

In recent years there have been heat waves which the London weather has experienced. As recently as 2003 the city of London had a total of 14 days in a row which had temperatures upwards of 30 Celsius (86 Fahrenheit) and 2 of those days had temperatures above 38 Celsius (100.4 Fahrenheit); though those numbers may not seem that high, that heat wave actually led to more than a few deaths. Winter

If you are expecting a winter like you would get inland in Europe or in North America you would be surprised at what the London weather has in store for you. Daytime during the winter in London is not always cold or gray. There are showers or drizzle but in some cases you will also find sunshine but maybe just not too much of it. It is the lack of sunshine which makes people believe that winters in London are not the best. The Summer

The summer is very popular with visitors. You get a lot more sunshine than you would at any other time of the year. The one thing that you will notice is that the streets are packed. That is not only because of the visitors but also because Londoners come out in droves to Hyde Park or to many of the pavement cafes. Temperatures usually average a high of 23.2 Celsius (73.8 Fahrenheit) in July while in August they drop to 22.9 Celsius (73.2 Fahrenheit). Best Time To Visit

The best time to visit the city of London by far is the summer provided that you do not get there during a heat wave. There is a lot more sunshine than you would get during the winter. For example, the sunniest month is August with an average of 195.1 mean sunshine hours compared to only 37.4 during the month of December. It is also rains a little less during the summer. In August you are likely to see only an average of 7.6 rainy days dropping 51.6 millimeters (2.31 inches). July has an average of 8 rainy days but only sees 41.1 millimeters (1.618 inches) of precipitation each year. The late spring and early fall are also great times to visit.
